Something Smells Fishy

In my 30 years as a health professional I’ve come to realize one thing – both mainstream and alternative medicine are fueled by the latest marketing fads. Fish oil has most recently become the most popular panacea for whatever ails you. As usual, various studies and a myriad of testimonials are cited to promote its efficacy; while such studies do contain certain truths, they typically reflect results derived under artificial circumstances, which are then unrealistically extrapolated to have the same significance in the context of real life.

While essential fatty acids are, well … essential, and fish oil does contain high concentrations of necessary omega-3 fatty acids, there are much cleaner and environmentally sound ways to satisfy this dietary need.

At Regenitech we believe in following Mother Nature’s lead … eat foods and herbs in their whole unadulterated form. Pharmaceuticals are derived by isolating specific natural compounds and concentrating them with a synthetic twist to create the exponentially increasing number of drugs that are now considered “necessary” for our health and well-being. The alternative health industry has adopted the mindset of big pharma by creating concentrates, albeit less toxic, at the expense of the synergistic whole food context from which it was derived. Fish oil concentrates are a perfect illustration of this trend.

The mass-marketing of fish oil puts a tremendous strain on our teetering oceanic eco-systems, as 650,000 tonnes of fish oil were produced from Peru, Denmark, Chile, Iceland and Norway, the five main exporting countries, in 2004 alone. True health comes when we see ourselves as a single symbiont in the natural order. We have learned through mainstream medical practices that treating one part of the body at the expense of the whole doesn’t work. Why would the outcome differ when we satisfy our needs at the expense of other life forms?

As our oceans have become the final resting ground for much of our industrial wastes, the fish we harvest, especially their fat, are storehouses for these contaminants. It shouldn’t stretch the imagination to assume that regular consumption of these oil concentrates exposes one to many toxins that include methylmercury, dioxin, PCBs and chlordane.

The reported benefits of fish oils include cholesterol regulation, anti-inflammatory properties and the support of cardio-vascular health. Wouldn’t it make more sense to address the issues that have created the epidemic of chronic degenerative diseases in our culture in the first place? The solutions are simple and obvious. Assume responsibility for your health through self-education while returning to a natural lifestyle.

Regenitech promotes only those products that coincide with our philosophy of doing what’s best for your body and our planet over the long run. We also support independent businesses that produce quality products while contributing to a sustainable economy free from the corporate government’s self-serving interests.

Thanks to all of you who have supported our site and stay tuned as many new articles, services and products are on the way.

Wecome to the Regenitech Blog

Hello and welcome to the Regenitech Blog! The name Regenitech means “renewal through technology”. All technology, without exception, already exists within the natural order. When we bring a new technological innovation into the outer world for our use we are merely externalizing one aspect of nature of which we are a part. The astute amongst us will ponder what that technology represents within ourselves while we enjoy its benefit. Technology also allows us to observe the consequences when we stray from the natural balance by accentuating one attribute at the expense of the whole.

Regenitech is about the advancement of science and technology in alignment with nature. Our motto, “where science consults the inner physician” has special significance to us as we are a consortium of professional, health practitioners, organic gardening specialists, green designer/builders and athletes. Through our chosen vocations we have learned what works and what doesn’t. Whether it be medicine, home and community design or athletic training we have kept abreast of the leading edge technologies to augment our professional training and creative impulses, but we always consult with nature first.

Our website is first and foremost about education. We believe an informed public will be more responsive to true individual and planetary needs.
